Carving and decorating pumpkins is great fun at Halloween time. Not only do you have a brilliant and crafty time digging out the insides of the pumpkin and carving scary faces onto the front but your Halloween guests will love them too. When carving and decorating pumpkins this year you don’t have to stick to just carving an eyes nose and a mouth into them, because their are endless unique ways you can decorate your pumpkins. All it takes is a little imagination and some ideas to get you started.
Make A Pumpkin Family
Instead of just making faces why not give your pumpkins a body, arms and legs too. You can purchase two larger pumpkins for the bottom half and a smaller one for the head. Make a home into the top and bottom of your two larger pumpkins and place a stick into the holes to keep them steady on top of each other. Carve two small holes into the side of your middle pumpkin and place two smaller sticks into the holes for arms. Then you can decorate your head as normal and place it onto the top. Why not make a few of these and create a family pumpkin scene to place on your doorstep.
Creative Pumpkin Carving Ideas
Instead of carving a face into your pumpkins you could carve other Halloween pictures instead such as bats, spiders or witches. To create a perfect shape of your bat you could draw on your pumpkin first with pencil or light colored pen, before you begin to carve. If you are stuck for ideas of pictures to carve into your pumpkins then you can take a look online for print out Halloween pumpkin patterns and templates.
Paint instead of carve
If you have younger children who want to make pumpkins then you may wan to paint them instead of carving. They will still get the enjoyment of making pumpkins without the mess or the danger of sharp instruments. You can let them loose with black, red or green paint, and let them create their own designs by painting on eyes, noses and mouths.
